CHEETAH book

Generally, cheetahs are associated with Africa and few are aware of the less-known Asiatic cheetah, sub-species Acinonyx jubatus venaticus. Once it roamed throughout the Middle East and all the way to India. Today, it has been lost to 98% of its historical range, and a critically endangered population survives only in the deserts of Iran.

On three eco-journeys into the Iranian outback, I was lucky enough to meet the conservationists tirelessly working for its protection. And although the closest I got was to come upon its scat – I was awed by the power and beauty of its desert and by the knowledge and commitment of its protectors.

Like all the Iranians I met, they showered me and my partner with graciousness and hospitality. Furthermore, they entrusted with their stories and I was encouraged to dare to write them down. Not only to highlight the Asiatic cheetah’s plight, but to hold it up as a mirror for the plight of all cheetahs and other endangered species, globally.

CHEETAH is published by SOFTWOOD BOOKS with illustrations by Persian artist and illustrator Sama Soltani.

Cheetah family Turan

TIDAL WAVES play

This is based on my long-term friendship with a rainforest tribe in Papua New Guinea. We follow a hunter-gatherer family as they are confronted by the unscrupulous outside world and hurtled from bush telegraph to mobile phone in one generation.
Also see Trees of Paradise for factual story.

First conceived in 2012, TIDAL WAVES is currently undergoing major revision.
